Balad Beast, Where Music Meets History.
As one of the key creatives at Artists In Motion developing the annual Balad Beast festival from 2023 and 2025, I helped shape a series of stage environments and projection mapped moments across Al Balad, Jeddah’s UNESCO World Heritage precinct.
The creative approach celebrated the identity of the site itself, drawing inspiration from its preserved architecture, narrow alleyways, decorative details and even its iconic street cats. The aim was to elevate the festival beyond a music event and create an experience that felt deeply connected to the character and culture of Al Balad.
With international and local artists performing across multiple stages, each environment needed to contribute to the festival’s broader visual identity while allowing individual acts to retain their own character. This involved developing music sets that gave VJs a strong visual framework for creating bespoke content for key performers, carefully adapted to the different buildings, facades and staging structures throughout the precinct.
