Noor ’Ala Noor (Light Upon Light) began with Emirati artist Fatma Lootah’s vision for the Al Wasl Dome: to create a sanctuary for reflection within a venue known for large scale spectacle. The question became, how do you transform such a vast, high energy space into something quiet, contemplative and sacred?
Developed for the Dhai Dubai Light Festival at Expo City Dubai, the installation drew from a sacred passage that describes divine light through the metaphor of a blessed olive tree. Light was central to the work, not only as a visual form but as a language to invite moments of reflection, connection and stillness.
My role began with a two day workshop with Fatma, where we unpacked the concept and developed the visual direction. From there, I translated the idea into a 360 degree living canvas. I shaped the composition as a continuously evolving experience, using imagery, light and movement to explore how light could be experienced throughout the space and create a deeper emotional connection between the audience and the work.
With the olive tree as the central symbol, we created a space that invited visitors to slow down, look upward and feel a deeper sense of connection.
