During Expo 2020 Dubai, Al Wasl Plaza became the centrepiece of the six month event and one of the world’s most ambitious projection surfaces. As part of the in house creative team at Artists in Motion, we acted as guardians of this extraordinary 360 degree canvas, developing the mapping sequences and visual language that defined its identity.
Over six months of nightly programming, we pushed the technical and creative possibilities of one of the world’s largest projection domes, ensuring every production responded to its unique architecture and scale.
I worked across more than 10 major productions. From initial concepts through to final delivery, I led animation teams and collaborated closely with artistic directors, choreographers, composers and other creatives to develop experiences that took full advantage of the dome’s immersive potential.
The work spanned a diverse range of productions, from the cultural storytelling of ‘UAE Expressions’,  the bioluminescent underwater nightly spectacle ‘Harmony’ to concerts for Black Eyed Peas and Sami Yusuf. I also contributed to the Expo 2020 Closing Ceremony, helping develop visual content for a range of scenes across the dome’s immersive canvas, including a sequence of cascading water and flowing fabrics for
Yo Yo Ma’s performance.
